July Recap

July is such a significant month for me this year. Not only it is my most important birthday month, it also signifies the start of Puasa month for the Muslims, London Olympics Games and a brand new college semester. Well means that I'm gonna be busy busy and no time for slacking around. Sigh let's hope I will be doing well in my studies through the remaining year. Okay here's a recap of the past few weeks happenings which I didn't manage to blog.

#1 Canceled my T-ara Showcase tickets as Hwayoung, my favourite member is leaving the group due to some controversies. Not gonna pay to watch a girl group which is rumored to have bullied Hwayoung just because she is a new member and has to endure all these hardships. Sigh. More details here: http://www.allkpop.com/2012/07/t-ara-controversy-cliff-notes-edition

#2 Stayed up late to watch the opening ceremony of the London Olympics Games and I love it! Well, not the impressive synchronization shown by the Chinese in the Beijing Olympics but I love the sincerity and the wit of the Brits in their performance.

#3 Finally signed up as a member at Sports Toto Fitness Centre today! See what I mean about being busy? Hubby had previously blogged about this gym here

#4 Tried out Vivo Pizza for the first time. Nothing special though and I would prefer a home delivered Domino pizza.

#5 Also watched The Dark Knight Rises twice. First one was with family and the second one was with hubby. Despite being well-praised by media critics, movie franchise fans and cinema audience, the story has not impacted me as much as I would have expected. My dad said it was boring and my mum loved it. Me just being indifferent and wondering what I could have missed amidst the applause and chatters of the impressed cinema crowd.

#6 Here's Ashie watching tv leisurely #likeaboss

#7 Having fun hitting nails to fix the broken closet at Hubby's place. Reminds me of our Kemahiran Hidup class in high school.

Also, an additional item to my reading list as I have received this novel for my birthday. ^^

Gahhh.. and many more to come! Where is the time when I need it? =S

Shin Chon Military Soup @ Ampang

Few weeks ago, I came across this Korean restaurant selling Military soup when I was browsing some online blogs and it caught my attention immediately as I've never heard of Korean military soup. Couldn't wait to try it out with hubby and so finally here we are in Ampang =D

The entrance to the restaurant at first floor right beside Snogurt, the Frozen Yogurt store.

We spent so much time finding this restaurant as we were misguided by the blog which refers the location of the restaurant as 'Just behind Galaxy Ampang'. In fact, it is about 15 minutes walk from Galaxy Ampang to the commercial shoplot located right in front of Ampang Putra Residency. The Korean Military soup restaurant is at the same row as Bangi Kopitiam and Shin Sun Mi Korean Supermarket.

Hubby with his favourite Korean canned soft drinks.

Take note of the small sign which will lead you to the restaurant at First floor.

The relieved hubby as we finally managed to locate the restaurant after walking cluelessly for who knows how long. However the restaurant only opens at 2:20pm so we had to come back later as we arrived early.

The menu. We ordered 2 sets of Spicy Military soup (RM22 per person) with additional Ramyen (RM6). Steam rice and seawood soup is also included without additional charges.

Happy Happy me. ^^

Tadaa! The long awaited Korean Military Soup. This is actually a simple dish with sausages, luncheon meat, kimchi, tofu, glass noodles and green onions but it tastes surprisingly good. For the curious ones, I will explain why it is called the Military Soup later =).

After adding the broth.

Ramyen to be added into the boiling broth.

 Free complimentary side dishes.

The Military soup after boiling for about 10 minutes. It does look like Kimchi soup in a way but it is different in taste wise.

There you go, the origin of Military soup. In the midst of war, the Korean army came out with a dish that includes American imported ingredients such as sausages and luncheon meat and also their local kimchi to be boiled together and it became a popular dish till now.

Step by step guide on how to enjoy your Military Soup.

They also have Dak Galbi and various chicken dishes as well.

I really enjoy having my lunch here as the meal is fulfilling for both of us. Highly recommended for Korean food lovers.

Homecook Hakka Food @ Kepong

In times where young people frequent mostly famous restaurant chains and fast food chains, I wondered how many left are passionate about finding traditional good food. Usually passed down from generations and located at unexpected places, these hidden gems are only known by word of mouth from the regular customers who have visited the restaurants for years. I'm lucky to have a dad who is a food lover and a food venturer as I follow him around enjoying good food since young. He is one of the regular customers of this restaurant that I'm going to blog about.

Hubby trying homecook Hakka food for the first time.

Here are some must try dishes recommended by us. One thing to be noted is that the owner of this restaurant is the cook and the only one whom you can order food from. Therefore the average waiting time is about half an hour for the dishes to be served.

This dish is just simply awesome because it tastes almost like my grandmother's cooking.

and who doesn't like teaochew steamed fish?

 Crispy fried brinjal.

which I have to say is my all time favourite.

 Mummy's favourite.

Thumbs up for this dish as the pork is well cooked that the portion of the fat is just nice so your blood cholesterol wouldn't shoot sky high.

Daddy's favourite.

We ended the meal with their famous papaya and it is a must eat dessert for every customer there.

This secretive restaurant is located right in front of The Challengers' Sports Complex near Metroprima Kepong with red extended roof top and no sign.

Latest update on 17/5/2014: The famous homecook Hakka food (阿梅小炒) has moved its location to another end. It's still at the Challengers' Sports Complex so you don't have to worry about having difficulties in finding the new location.

Business hours: 11.30am to 3.00pm only. Closed on Sunday.

Ole-Ole Balinese Cuisine at Waterlily Bistro

Here's another food post to satisfy your food cravings! This time we headed for authentic Balinese cuisine which we thought might be worth trying out.

Waterlily Bistro at Mutiara Tropicana. I did some research on this restaurant and it actually shares the same owner as Bumbu Bali and Ole-Ole Bali.

Doesn't matter if I look fat in this picture as long as I get to enjoy good food.

A must-try Hot Barli boiled with Pandan leaves which explains the unusual fragrance

At first glance, it seems to be a typical Malay rice served with vegetables and chicken. However, I  must say the cooking style is very different compared to the local Malay cuisine. The chicken is extremely tender and is served with some sambal topping.

Thumbs up for the grilled prawns and fish served in this seafood nasi campur.

Sate lilit which is made of various seafood.

Couldn't remember how much we spent on this meal but it is a tad too pricey for people with average budget. It is worth trying out though for first timers.
