Glasshouse @ Mahsa University, Petaling Jaya

So coffee shops are becoming the inevitable hangout places for youngsters nowadays.

At coffee shops, you might be seeing people catching up with each other, working on assignments, gossiping about the latest news or just swiping away on iPad or tablet. Coffee shops are popular for a reason, and it's hard to stay away from this trend. I like coffee shops because they allow you to sit for hours, whether you are a lone ranger or part of the high tea bunch.

I also went to coffee shops during my most hectic and stressful days of final exam preparation. The money spent on beverages and cakes no doubt has escalated to a significant amount with the increasing time I'm spending at coffee shops (it sums up to hundreds within a month I believe) *guilty mode on* but I become a more productive person as I'm getting spoiled by the luxury of sipping good quality coffee *guilty mode off* hahahaha XD.

It's definitely a delightful piece of news when I saw the announcement of the opening of Glasshouse at Mahsa University. As I'm nearing towards the end of my 4 year course, it's a slight pity that I wouldn't be able to visit Glasshouse frequently after graduation =( #sadfact

So I managed to visit the coffee shop as often as possible during my last days as a university student. If you are following me on instagram, you would have noticed it was flooded with coffee pictures at one time. Haha.

Colourful tea party! Can you guess the tea flavours by looking at the colour?

I'm waiting for your answers....

Still waiting for it....

The answers are Chamomile tea, Strawberry tea and Peppermint tea!

I drink tea when I don't feel like drinking coffee because too much caffeine will give me this annoying dizziness sometimes.

Artistic tea shot time! Shot #1!

Shot #2!

Shot #3!

This time it's a coffee shot!

An emo shot of Iced Caramel Latte!

At glasshouse, not only you will be able to get energy boosting caffeine and soothing tea, healthy wraps and sandwiches are also available for the health conscious people. Throughout my 4 years at Mahsa, I was only able to eat cafeteria food which are Chinese/Indian/Malay mixed rice and western food. Now I'm pampered with more healthy choices such as wraps n sandwiches!

Cakes are also available for the sweet tooth ; ) Left: Chocolate Cake, Right: Red Velvet Cake

Brownies! Ask for the counter to heat it up for you for more chocolatey flavour! I absolutely love their Brownies!

Homemade yellow lime cheesecake, also known as 'Yellow Bird'! Quickly grab it before it runs out! Cheesecakes are always the best sellers!

Another insta shot to impress the followers haha.

So this is how Glasshouse looks like from the outside which looks exactly like a glasshouse.

Visit Glasshouse facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/theGlasshousecafe for daily menu updates! You will be finding new surprises in the menu if you follow the updates closely.

Outdoor area for outdoor lovers.

Jenga and Scrabble are also available to kill boredom.

Weeeee, playing simple game like Jenga with a bunch of friends was fun!

My lovely friends <3

The roof of glasshouse, so prettyyyy with the natural sunlight shining upon us.

Menu of the day! Ain't they cheap? The prices are made affordable for students with limited pocket money.

Non-Mahsa students should be able to visit Glasshouse as long you tell the security guards that you are going to visit the coffee shop.

Check hashtag #theglasshousecafe on instagram for more awesome possum pictures.

Oh and I'm finally done with all the final exams! Can't wait for the farewell dinner tonight and I just remember I have a speech to prepare!

Till then!

NASAM Hope Walk 2013 - Volunteer Work

The week after the Fexco Asian Gaelic Games, I signed up for another volunteer work again which is the NASAM Hope Walk 2013. NASAM stands for the National Stroke Association of Malaysia which is a non-profit organisation to help stroke survivors. NASAM Hope Walk 2013 is organised to increase the awareness of stroke among the young and old. During the event, the caregiver, friends and stroke survivors participated in the walk at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa to honour stroke survivors.

The beautiful dawn at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa. You can see the construction of the iconic YTL building (known as The Capers) at Sentul East.

Participants and volunteers walking for the same cause.

Group picture with the last stroke survivor to reach the finishing line. He could only walk in very slow manner yet he was so determined to finish the walk by himself. He took 3 hours to finish one round of walk around the lake which is around 2.5km. So touched to see such determination and effort from the uncle. He received our biggest cheer and applause when he finally reached the finishing line. = )

The determined uncle.

Another group picture.

 With Christy.

The walk ended at around 11am and I was feeling very tired already. However, it was fun to participate in such a meaningful event. I was also very delighted to see some of my past stroke patients from NASAM particpated in the walk even though they are wheel-chair bound.

That's all! No more volunteer works for now as I have to focus on my research proposal. Still a long long way to go until I'm able to finish it.

My first sports physio exeperience - Fexco Asian Gaelic Games 2013

Had fun volunteering at my first international sports event, the Asian Gaelic Games, despite suffering from soreness all over my hand muscles. The games is held at the Putrajaya Equestrian Park on 12th -13th October. Gaelic games is actually a traditional sports from Ireland (also known as Irish football) which requires a combination of techniques and movements from rugby, basketball, football and volleyball. It's something very new in Malaysia and most of the players who participated in this event are Caucasians with a minority of Japanese and Taiwanese.

The role of sports physiotherapist came into play when the athletes had injuries such as muscles strains, ligament sprains and etc. I've always wanted to do some sports physio so I was really happy to be able to participate in this event. I had to do a lot of therapeutic massage, stretching and of course Kinesio taping for the athletes. My thumb and fingers are really sore when I'm typing this blog post. @.@

The treatment beds occupied by the athletes and the physios doing their best to make the athletes feel better before going back to the field. Gaelic football is a highly competitive sports so the athletes have to be in their best form in order to play well.

Me doing some taping on my classmate. Taping is something that we don't often practice in our usual clinical postings so it was really good that we can just go ahead and tape everyone in the event =D.

Taping the injured calf muscle for one of the players. =D

Credits to my fellow classmates for all the pictures. =)

Me with a Korean sports physiotherapist sunbaenim for the Korean team. His taping skill is really good as he is an experienced sports physio for more than 10 years. Too bad I wasn't able to communicate with him well as he's not good in speaking English and my Korean is almost useless at that point. All I know is how to introduce myself, how to order food and how to ask for directions blablabla which didn't help much when talking to my sunbaenim. Haha. Hope to find him in Korea next time and learn some taping techniques! Haha.

A really cute mixed Japanese-Irish girl, Haruka. I love her curly copper hair and her oversized team shirt. Haha. Cuteness overload!

Me, Christy and Jacqueline showing our certificates proudly.

Group picture with Joanna and Morah. The physiotherapists in charge.

Group picture with ze classmates. Thanks to my university and the Gaelic Games Organising Committee for giving us this amazing opportunity! My next volunteer work will be the NASAM hope walk! Can't wait for another amazing experience!

Holiday Mood On!

This is it! Results were out and this draws the end of our third year. Soon we will be marching towards our final year. And then we graduate. Oh man. So gan zheong.

For now, I have to spend my holidays wisely and productively because this will be my last long term holiday before the challenging final year starts. It makes me shudder to even think about the final year project proposals and practical exam that we will be having. ><

On another note, a photography studio was in our college today so all of us head over and get our photos taken. We were given so many cute props to pose with. ^^
Our lecturers wearing hats and holding cute props. Haha.

These are just unofficial photos taken using smartphones. An official photo album will be given to us. Wooooo, can't wait to receive it. = 3

Btw I'm super happy with my results! Glad that all those efforts were finally paying off. For those who didn't do as well as they've expected, I hope they will do better in their future exams! I'm sure they will!

That's all! Happy Holiday everyone!

Ponggal Unity Festival

Salam 1Malaysia! Laziness struck me the moment I passed my hospital interview exam and I had rarely opened my textbooks ever since XD. Oh ya, I went to this Ponggal Unity Festival with my coursemates on Tuesday. It is a nationwide festive celebration held by the government at Dataran Merdeka to celebrate the Ponggal Festival with the Malaysian Indian community, meaning that all the political VIPs including our prime minister would be attending the festival as well. Ponggal is a harvest festival celebrated in South India at the end of the harvest season. It is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Indian community in Malaysia. Traditionally, on Ponggal day, Indians prepare the sweet rice before giving thanks to the “life-giving” sun for a bountiful harvest.

Us in the bus provided by our university.

Arrived at Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur at 5pm. The bus dropped us there because it was only a short walking distance away from Dataran Merdeka. Look at the crowd waiting to celebrate the festival.

Crowd moving towards Dataran Merdeka.

Banner with the image of our prime minister and MIC leader.

Another shot of the crowd.

Group photo!

The ladies.

The huge crowd at Dataran Merdeka. There were many stalls selling a variety of Indian food. We didn't try the food because the queue was long and the heat was inbearable.

Candid shot of our group walking to the event area.

Look at the bright sunny weather on that day and the sky was sooo blueee. It felt like paradise. Bright sunny weather is good for photos but not good for us haha. The sun was scorching hot and I felt burnt. All of us couldn't stand the heat and decided to leave once we had enough fun taking pictures. One good thing about bright sunlight is that all the photos came out looking stunning!

Me and Dodo, my lovely coursemate from Nigeria who graced the event with her beautiful traditional wear. My friend said this photo looks like we were at Miami beach with the sunnies and high fashion pose haha.

Second shot.

Love this shot of my coursemates.

More group photos. =D

The stage at the centre of Dataran Merdeka. Our prime minister would officiate the event and give speech later on this stage but we didn't wait until that moment. Haha.

Coconut tree leaves. My friend told me that Indians love to use coconut tree leaves for decoration during events or celebration.

A random shot of a beautifully dressed Indian lady. Love the vibrant colours of their traditional wear.

That's all!

Happy Ponggal to all the Indians out there! Chinese New Year is getting near and it's another good excuse for me to not come out from laziness. The high number of public holidays in these few weeks also contribute to the laziness as well. Oh well haha.
