Amante Nail Spa Charity Fair

We are finally back from our 11 days Korea trip! Miss Korea so much now that I'm having a mild post-travel depression. Haha. Korea trip posts will be up soon but before that there's a message to be delivered to anyone who is reading this.

Let's do some charity together!

If you are interested, here's a chance for you to lend a helping hand to the needy people.

Amante Nail Spa (a popular beauty and wellness spa centre) will be hosting a one-day Amante Charity Fair on 7th September 2014 from 10am to 6pm.

It's a combination of beauty and charity which polishes your outer beauty and enhances your inner beauty at the same time! Continue to read to see how you can do that.

In conjunction with this fair, customers can purchase the Amante Charity Coupon booklet for RM35. Inside the booklet has 7 X RM5 cash vouchers where you can purchase treatments, activities, food and games at Amante Charity Fair and BONUS thank you RM88 Hot Stone Massage treatment!

Everyone loves massage right?

Proceeds from the Amante Charity Fair will be donated to GOOD SAMARITAN HOME – Home for Children in Malaysia for their education. We believe by helping to raise funds for this home would make learning possible for students of all ages, from pre-school to graduate school, providing basic education to those who need it most.

We would like to invite you to come join us on the 7th September, 2014 at Amante Kota Damansara to show your support for these amazing young children and to Good Samaritan Home.

So why not get yourself a relaxing spa treatment and help the underprivileged children at the same time? It's a win-win situation or should I say killing two birds with one stone? =D

SUPPORTING UNDERPRIVILEGED CHILDREN
TO LIVE THEIR DREAMS
THROUGH BETTER EDUCATION!

Steps to participate in the charity fair:

1. Purchase the Amante Charity Voucher booklet from the nearest Amante outlet. Visit www.amante.my for a list of locations near you.

How to Select the Best Sunscreen [Product Review]

If there is a survey about the most popular skincare product in Malaysia, I wouldn't be surprised if sunscreen came out topping the list.

Malaysia weather is generally hot and sunny all year round. A day without exposing to sunlight is rare, unless you are the typical couch potato. Sunlight is the main source of UV (ultraviolet) ray which provides essential Vitamin D but is also a natural enemy of young and flawless skin. It accelerates aging, causes freckles and dehydrates the skin.

Here is when sunscreen, or commonly known as sunblock here, comes in handy. Sunscreen helps shield our skin from the harmful UV ray. During my previous Bangkok trip, I made sure to apply sunblock everyday before going out and even brought along my sunblock to reapply it in the noon before the sunblock thins out.

I know the variety of sunscreen in the market can be quite confusing so I have listed five (5) criteria for selecting the best sunscreen.

1) Spray or Lotion type?
There are articles that reveal the risks of using spray-on sunscreen. Although it is convenient to use and less greasy, it is impossible to avoid inhaling the chemical spray because the particles are too small to be seen. It is also easy to miss a spot when spraying sunscreen on your skin so you might not get maximum coverage.

2) 'Broad spectrum' sunscreen
Some sunscreen products only protect against UV-B ray but there are few in the market that protect against both UV-A & UV-B ray to ensure maximum protection (e.g. Sun off a Beach). UV-B is the chief culprit behind sunburn, while UV-A, which penetrate the skin more deeply, is associated with wrinkling, leathering, sagging, and other light-induced effects of aging. So it is important to check whether the product is able to protect your skin from both types of sunrays.

3) SPF
'SPF' which stands for 'Sun Protection Factor' refers to protection against UV-B radiation which burns the skin. A few years ago, choosing a good sunscreen meant you just looked for a high SPF - which rates how well the sunscreen protects against ONE type of cancer-causing UV-B. The truth is you don't want a sunscreen with SPF higher than 50 because it might expose your skin to damaging UV-A rays, which also cause skin cancer. A moderate SPF of about 50 is hence more than enough.

4) Portable in pocket, no sticky sensation
You need to bring along your sunscreen if you are exposing your skin to the sunlight for long hours. Sunscreen normally runs out after one or two hours depending on the exposure so make sure to reapply it often. This is when a portable sunscreen makes a great choice because you can put it into your pocket or hook it onto your sling bag. It is also important to buy a sunscreen which doesn't give the greasy feeling but also moisturises your skin as well.

5) Water resistant
If you are going to be in the water or exercising, get a sunscreen which is resistant to water and sweat.

While selecting the best sunscreen is important, it is even more crucial to use it correctly. Here is an important tip to make good use of the sunscreen that you bought - Lay it on THICK.

Slather a generous, thick layer on your face or body regardless of how ghostly and pale you look after applying. A good sunscreen should blend with the skin after application and not have you looking like a Peking-opera performer. Sunscreen is like toothpaste, if you don't use it enough, it's not going to work. Many sunburns which occur despite using the sunscreen are caused by infrequent and faulty application.

This is also mentioned in a Korean beauty programme called 'Get It Beauty'.

Tips: Use a tablespoon of sunscreen on your face and about 50 gram for the whole body.

So after carefully going through all the criteria, I have finally found one sunscreen product that successfully fits all the criteria listed above - Sun Off A Beach!

Sun Off A Beach does not only fit all the criteria above (lotion, broad spectrum, high SPF but not >50, portable and water resistant), it also contains Ceramides which are critical components of our skin barrier to not only keep pathogens out, but also to keep moisture in. This hydration is necessary to allow cellular turnover while keeping our skin healthy and vibrant. It also maintains the firmness of the skin. It sounds like a dream come true for skincare product lovers!

Not to mention it is also suitable for both face and body unlike some products that are only suitable for either one.

There are two types that you can choose from - Anti-aging & Sensitive. I chose anti-aging because I was so afraid that the damage of sunlight would make me look older than my real age.

As you can see, the sunscreen is fast absorbing and quickly blends with the skin after application without causing your skin to look greasy and pale. Plus it doesn't have the sticky after-feel which deters people from using sunblock. Remember, a tablespoon for your face! Not teaspoon!

Sun Off A Beach can be hooked onto anywhere for convenient use. Surely gonna hook it onto my sling bag when I'm going for a beach trip at Haeundae Beach in Busan!

Lastly, I would rate a 5 star ✮ for the convenience and high performance of this product! Would sincerely recommend it to anyone who is planning to buy sunscreen *thumbs up*.

The price is RM22.80 for 50g! 100g is also available for regular user.

TT Swallow's Nest Mask Review & Butterfly Walk

Received tons of beauty products from the recent Butterfly Fund Raising Walk so I figure I should do some reviews on these products. I'm actually eager to share my experiences because lately I have been secretly trying to improve my complexion and if certain products do work for my face, I would be more than happy to share it out! ^0^

The sponsored products received are:
1. Kiehl's Clearly Corrective White Range
(Cleanser, Toner and Acne Scars Treatment Cream)
2. TT Swallow's Nest Mask
3. Posh Complimentary Pedicure/Manicure worth RM45
4. Dove Skin Indulgence Body Shampoo
5. Tribal Head Scarf
6. Human Nature Overnight Elixir with 9ActivOil

I'm currently super conscious about my post-acne/whiteheads scars which are all over my face now. I'm searching for the best whitening product to reduce the scars and make them less obvious. Luckily I was able to get my hands on the TT Swallow's Nest Mask at the right time so I was eager to try it out.

Timeless Truth mask, or better known as TT mask which was founded many years back in 1988. The TT Swallow's Nest mask is a whitening plus lifting mask. After opening the packet, I had to carefully unfold the mask to prevent accidentally tearing the mask itself. You will find that the mask is not the ordinary facial mask but with extra sides to hang on both ears to provide additional coverage for the chin and neck area.

Step-by-step instructions on how to apply the mask. As you can see, you need to stretch the sides in order to lift the bottom part of your chin and hang on both ears.

Benefits of the mask:
Moisturizing, Whitening, Brightening, Clarity, Reduce wrinkles, Increase elasticity

Ingredients:
Swiflet's Nest Extract, 3-O-Ethyl-L-Ascorbyl Ether, Tranexamic Acid, Propylene Glycol, Hyaluronic, Anthemis Nobilis(Chamomilla) Flower Extract
*Note: The ingredients of the mask are really good for whitening, hydration and regeneration*

Not ready to reveal my bare face yet so here's a picture of me applying the mask right after the Butterfly walk.

My verdict after using it for the first time?

1. Texture of the mask is good. It won't fall off easily even if you are in all sorts of position.
(I know some masks that are unable to adhere to your face well shortly after applying)

2. The mask doesn't sting and cause redness to your skin after using. So I assume it is fine for sensitive skins.

3. Skin does feel hydrated after one time application and apart from that not much changes but I guess more applications are needed to judge the effectiveness of the mask and see clear results.

4. Not suitable for big faces like mine! I was struggling to stretch the sides to my ears (probably due to the large surface area of my face and I was saddened about this haha)

What you should know about this mask?
  • RM10 per piece. They are currently having 50% promotion on their website (Original price is RM20)
  • Won Taiwan Golden Diamond Award of Taiwan Expend Top Commodity 2013
  • TT masks are also certified Halal by the Chinese Muslim Association of Taiwan so the masks are perfectly fine for Muslims to use =D
Visit Timeless Truth official website at http://www.ttmask.my for more details.

Butterfly Fund Raising Walk
It was a meaningful and fun experience joining the walk with the other Butterflies. The walk was held at TTDI park on 4th May 2014 (my first time going to the park though staying nearby! A0A). The purpose of the walk is to raise fund in order to build a better community for beauty and lifestyle bloggers with passion.

Posing with the goodies bag after the excitement of discovering awesome stuff inside! The goodies bags were given to the participants as a token of appreciation. Frankly speaking, the goodies bag is worth so much more than the RM10 we paid in order to join the walk.

Two Yogood cereal bars were given for a energetic start of the day! They are yummy indeed. Sumore only less than 100 per bar! Thumbs up!

Jac, Jean and me! We were quite ecstatic at the sight of monkeys hopping around in the green-filled park. I love animals, monkeys and all but the sight of baby monkeys gave me a minor shock as they remind me of mutated human babies with tiny heads and black faces. Perhaps I'm being too imaginative here, haha @.@

An adult monkey enjoying his fresh morning air just like how we did. I have not been exercising much recently (zero exercise done to be exact) as the final exams are approaching. This walk reminds me of how I used to love my morning jogs at Desa Park City. I need my daily workout back once the exams are over.

A pathway in between the thick and dense trees.

At the hanging bridge. I was running to the other end frantically after realising the bridge was swaying horizontally. I guess I wouldn't be able to overcome this height phobia forever.

(>3<)

Queuing up for free Gongcha drinks!

Heard the truck broke down while on the way to the park but still managed to arrive despite being late. Kudos to the Gongcha team!

With Tammy, the founder of Butterfly Community! Thanks for organising such great event and I look forward to join more Butterfly events in the future Y(^-^)Y

That's all for today's post! Thanks Jac Jac for the awesome pictures taken by her Samsung NXmini!

Guardian - My Date With Beauty

Hi readers! I know I rarely blog about beauty-related events which I seldom join. Well, I'm not even qualified to be a beauty blogger to begin with. However, the Great Guardian Makeover is one of the events that I have joined recently in an effort to claim the beauty blogger title haha. Ehem, actually the truth is I decided to join the event because the venue was near my place and I was so tempted by the makeover session.

The Great Guardian Makeover is a beauty event organised by Guardian, the leading pharmacy, health and beauty retail chain in Malaysia, to make ladies feel good from the inside out. The yearly event started since 2008, and has been very successful till now. Themed "My Date with Beauty", this year's Great Guardian Makeover was held at One Utama Shopping Centre. Bloggers of the event were given a makeover by A Cut Above Academy, a super awesome goodies bag, a RM50 Guardian voucher and a personalized photo to bring home.

Besides media bloggers, there are benefits for walk-in customers too as customers who purchased RM20 and above including one participating brand in a single reciept were also entitled to one makeover ticket at RM10 to join the Great Guardian Makeover Event. Each Makeover Ticket entitled the customer to a makeover session, a photo session and a goody bag. 18 brands participated in this year's event including L'Oreal Paris, Maybelline New York, Alcon, Avene, Bio Essence, BioGrow Oat BG22, Biore, Blackmores, Brands, Dermatix, Enchanteur, Hada Labo, Nano White, Neutrogena, Nivea, Oslee, Palmer's and Safi.

That's true that's true haha.

This year's theme colour was obviously pink.

A group of energetic dancers in vibrant outfit to heat up the atmosphere by dancing to William Pharrell's hit song, 'Happy'. I guess the purpose is to bring up the important message of being happy with just the way you are.

Shake it shake it.

Stylists from A Cut Above Academy are also included in the group photo session with the representatives of Guardian Malaysia and the dancers.

Representatives from Guardian Malaysia and various participating brands.

Photobooth for the participants pose with cute and funny props. In conjunction with the Great Guardian Makeover, there are also two online contests - a Photobox contest on Facebook and an Instagram contest. The contest period is from 5th April to 30th April. For the Photobox contest, participants are to pose creatively with the given props at this photobooth, LIKE the Guardian facebook page and look for your photo in the "Photo Box Contest" album. Tag yourself on the photo and upload it as your Facebook profile picture. The lucky winner wins a Designer Bag worth RM1,640.

<3 <3 <3

On the Instagram Contest, participants need to follow Guardian on Instagram at #guardianmalaysia, snap a selfie and submit the photo and in not more than 20 words tell Guardian "What makes you beautiful". Tag @guardianmalaysia and #GuardianBeauties and you are on your way to win a Designer Bag worth RM1,140.

Kawaii model introducing new Japanese haircare product.

Maybelline booth!

Took a picture with a hairstylist who decided to straighten my hair with slight inward curves at the end. I love it when my hair is sleek and shiny after straightening without the annoying fuzziness.

Media bloggers are invited to Dave Deli's for a refreshment session. I was delighted to see my favourite Foot Long Sausage on the menu. I used to order this whenever I went to Dave Deli's when I was young.

Generous portion of sausage, mashed potatoes, garden salad and coleslaw.

Look at my sleek and shining hair! Does it remind you of Cheong Soong Yi from the hit Korean drama 'You Who Came From Another Star'? Haha I know I'm far from it but I just mad love this hairstyle. Too bad it would't stay the same without me putting the effort to learn how to manage and style my hair.

Group selfie with Christy and Shermin after the makeover session.

Coffee with Christy at Seven Cups, Damansara Perdana. The Hot Mocha that Christy ordered was surprisingly good! It tastes like bitter sweet dark chocolate if you know what I mean ; ) Would love to order this again the next time I drop by =)

Hot chocolate for me to avoid the caffeine intoxication.

Love the blue wallpaper at the back which matches well with my outfit. Haha.

The rest are some random photoshoot of the new commercial area situated at Damansara Perdana.

#OOTD Blue denim jacket, military singlet and leather pants from House of Humerus.

Do you like my 'emo' themed photoshoot? Christy said it looked like some horror movie poster and named it 'The Unrented' Haha.

Lastly, it's time to reveal the contents of the awesome goodies bag that we had received earlier at the event. Tadaa! Was surprised by the generosity and the variety of items given. =) Thanks Guardian Malaysia and Butterfly Project Malaysia for the opportunity to receive such great products.

My favourite items from the goodies bag would be Oslee Honey Sugar Mask (skin does feel really smooth and the pores are less visible after application), Palmer's Hydrating Gel Lotion, Blackmores supplements, Avene's Skin Whitening Range and L'Oreal Shampoo for colour damaged hair.

That's all for today!

Kose Beauty Workshop - SEKKISEI Lotion Mask Giveaway

[Sponsored Post]

Ever wonder how Snow White achieves her snowy, translucent skin?

*Drumrolls..*

The not-so-secretive secret now lies in this magical KOSÉ SEKKISEI lotion mask!

I was so lucky to be invited to this KOSÉ beauty workshop along with my besties Christy and Jac to learn more about this best whitening product on earth. Stay tune to know why it is the best whitening product ; ). During the workshop, we are given the opportunity to try out the SEKKISEI range basic skin care and also the lotion mask. I have been using KOSÉ SEKKISEI products previously and I know these products definitely work wonders!

*BE SURE TO READ UNTIL THE END OF THIS POST TO JOIN SEKKISEI LOTION MASK GIVEAWAY CONTEST!*

KOSÉ Beauty Workshop is held at Fresca @ Gardens.

Thanks to Jac who invited us to join the workshop! ^^

Here are the lovely blue babies, also know as the SEKKISEI products. The best thing about this workshop is that we get to try each of the product and learn the correct applying techniques to ensure maximum results.

Couldn't wait for the workshop to start, was feeling super excited already =D

Mirrors, wet cottons, tissue all ready!

Tired looking face with eye bags @.@

Photo with tutor of the day, Ms. Jo. Met her at Mahsa Kose Roadshow two years ago no wonder she looks so familiar to me!

Here comes the secret recipe of the amazing lotion mask that I have told earlier. There are 9 benefits of SEKKISEI lotion mask including translucency, penetration, moisturizing, 0 pores, whitening, smoothening, firming, relaxing and evenness. All the aforesaid characteristics are the basic requirements of perfect translucent, snowy skin and SEKKISEI lotion mask is going to make it possible!

So you must be thinking why is this lotion mask so special? The answer lies in the super ingredients used which are all oriental plant extracts including Coix Seed Extract, Angelica Extract and Melothria Extract. All the ingredients suppress melanin production and have natural whitening effect on our skin. So we don't have to worry about excessive whitening/bleach chemical agents that can harm our skin.

Me washing off the dirt and oil by applying the cleansing cream. It’s important to have a clean face before you start applying mask.

Just keep calm and wash your face.

Girls, pay attention now because I’m going to list down the step-by-step instructions on how to apply this lotion mask!

1) Pour SEKKISEI lotion into cap until it reaches the line.
2) Put the mask into the cap
3) Allow mask to be absorbed by the lotion until it puffs up and become double of its original size.
4) Unfold the mask carefully and place it onto clean face for 5-10mins or until the mask is dried up.
5) Remove mask from face; tap the excess fluid into the skin until it is completely absorbed, no rinsing is necessary.
6) Voila! Skin is now fair, radiant and translucent like SNOW.

Not to mention it feels really refreshing while applying the lotion mask.

The before and after picture for comparison. This picture may not do justice due to the difference in lighting but I can really feel that the texture of my skin changed after applying the lotion mask. When I touch my skin, it feels bouncy as the skin has completely absorbed the water essence. My skin was really rough, dry and dull before the application so the difference really surprises me.

Refreshments after the workshop to replenish ourselves. We didn't even realise it had been more than two hours since the workshop started.

Guacamole, salsa and nachos etc for snacks. Fresca is a Mexican cuisine Restaurant so Mexican style food was being served.

Me and Christy after applying the SEKKISEI BB Cream. Looks completely different now eh? =D
