Artisan Roast @ Seksyen 13, Petaling Jaya

Recently watched the funny video made by Jane Chuck and her friends titled 'How Girls Drink Coffee' which reveals the ugly truth behind how girls drink their coffee these days. Unfortunately, the video does remind me of how Hui Ming and I were so obsessed with setting up the background and adjusting the lighting in order to produce the best 'Pinterest' type of artistic photos. It couldn't hide the fact that our purpose of visiting coffee shops is more than just drinking coffee.

We went to the garage style Artisan Roast which is located in a remote area of Seksyen 13.

Light bulbs connected to steel pipes which are used as table light in order to convey the garage feel. Not sure if the light bulbs are really working, but if they do, I'm sure the dim light emitted by the light bulb will create a unique romantic atmosphere at night.

#OOTD

Main photoshoot item of the day: Numeral Biscuits brought by Hui Ming.

And now enjoy the hard work that we have put together in to order to come out with the photos below.

Ahh this photo is slightly overexposed #failed.

Can you guess the meaning of the numbers in the photo? =D

CSY: 'Don't you sink while we are still trying to take the best shot of you.' Apparently was imagining a conversation between the coffee milk foam and myself in the head.

CSY: Gahhhh the once silky smooth foam now had ugly air bubbles forming on it. Such low endurance. Couldn't you just wait.

We even converted the images into GIF file and created cute animations.

Timid number cookies go into hiding as the huge lens monster was looking at them with intense hunger.

25th November is the anniversary of CYK & CSY (Hubby and I) and we have known each other since 2011. <3

Overall, the coffee shop has nice ambience but we were disappointed with the absence of cakes especially their famous cheese cake. We were told that there were no cakes for that day and had to wait for the next day.

Tous Les Jours Grand Opening @ Bangsar Telawi

'I'm waking up to ash and dust, I wipe my brow and I sweat my rust, I'm breathing in the chemicals'
*Gasps for air*. Radioactive by Imagine Dragons has always been my favourite song and I find it so relevant to our situation right now due to what's happening in Malaysia and Singapore. The air and vision today was so bad and I was literally breathing in the dust and smoke and had problem catching with my breath all thanks to our neighbour country. Hmmph. I miss breathing clean and fresh air! It's only during these times we become conscious of what we breathe in and learn how to appreciate what we used to have.

Back to the topic, my bestie and I were at the grand opening of this famous Korean bakery shop, Tous Les Jours this morning! Tous Les Jours means 'Everyday' in French. I have difficulty pronouncing French haha. I actually came across this bakery shop on facebook and found out that they are having this free coffee and tea promotion for three days so we decided to give it a try! Besides, there is so much hype going on even before the opening of this bakery shop. Apparently Tous Les Jours is a very famous Korean bakery shop known to have only used flour imported by Korea and many local people seem to know about this bakery.

I really like the concept of this bakery shop! The doors and window panes are painted in mint green which really compliment the red bricks well. I love this shop before even stepping in. Haha. There's just something about this shop that makes it very 'Korean-ish'. In Korea, there are many cute coffee and bakery shops like this which are very aesthetic looking.

The display of freshly baked pastries welcoming you upon entering the shop.

The shop was packed with customers despite our early arrival.

I love the cute wooden trays. Don't you just love cute bakery shop with these cute little details?

Bestie! I love this picture!

 Pastries!

 Cute star-shaped Apple Crumb Danish!

First round of pastries that we ordered! The numbers indicate our preference from most favourite (number 1) to least favourite (number 3).

Our number 1 favourite! Potato Focaccia bread with crispy potato wedges on top of a layer of Mozarella cheese and herbs! The bread is super crunchy. We went crazy over this Potato Focaccia because both of us like savoury pastries and this bread really hit our mark.

Soporo. It's bread with peanut butter crumbs! The outer layer is very crunchy but the bread is soft and tender. Our second favourite!

Cream Cheese Danish! It's quite good. However, both of us are not sweet pastries lovers so we weren't overly crazy about it.

Free Americano!

Apple Crumb Danish with thick layer of apple jam topped with some crumbs! Isn't it pretty? The layered pastry is crunchy and savoury while the filling is sweet. The same goes for this Apple Crumb Danish. It's a fairly well made pastry but we don't really fancy the sweet flavoured apple jam. Nevertheless the crunchy and layered outer pastry deserves thumbs up from us!

Close-up shot.

Yay! Free sweet potato bun given by the Korean manager! Thanks!

Natural yellow sweet potato filling in between the soft and fluffy bun. We like it because it's not too sweet! Those who like read bean bun will definitely like this as well!

 Sweet potato filling!

Enjoying coffee on a perfect Sunday morning! I really love the ambience here.

Must pose with the red bricks wall. Haha.

Here are some pictures taken by Hui Ming.
Even their coffee mug is in mint green!

Waiting for our turn at the busy cashier counter.

Take away some pastries for my parents too! Bought sweet potato bum, Cheese Fitzel and Potato Focaccia!

 Yipee, I'm surrounded by pastries!

 Us!

Cute mint green bicycle with a basketful of bread!

OOTD! Oops, bag strap felling off my shoulder!

 Photo of us together!

I really like the pastries here and this bakery is currently my top favourite in my personal opinion. The pastries at The Bread Shop (Damansara Heights) are good too but you can find more variety of pastries and cakes at Tous Les Jours! TLJ is a must try for all pastries lovers in KL/PJ and I'm sure you won't be disappointed. =)

Tous les Jours's operation hour is from 7.00am to 10.00pm daily. Located at Telawi Square, Bangsar just opposite Papparich or Hong Leong Bank. Few more branches are soon to be opened soon Empire Damansara Perdana and Subang!

That's all for today's pastries post!

The Bread Shop @ Damansara Heights

I'm not a hardcore coffee drinker but I love exploring places with aromatic coffee and hard-to-resist pastries. There's just something about coffee shops that makes me fall in love with. After my previous visits to Kaffa Espresso Bar and Artisan Roast with bestie Hui Ming, we just couldn't stop searching for more coffee shops and this time we headed to...

The Bread Shop!

Well, strictly speaking The Bread Shop is not really a coffee shop. As its name suggests, The Bread Shop is a bakery shop selling freshly baked bread and pastries but also serves coffee and sandwiches so it is a perfect place for us to meet up and enjoy coffee.

Coffee is the one thing we wouldn't miss. So pictures of coffee first.

Latte. We both like how they add the chocolate syrup and cocoa powder on the thin layer of milk foam. Coffee is fine, not too heavy and not too light. The cappucino is similar with the latte as both have similar foamy milk layer. Now I'm quite confused between these two.

Next, pastries.

Coffee Swirl. Recommended by many bloggers but I find it ordinary. Nothing to boast about. We were slightly disappointed because there's not much coffee flavour in it otherwise it is a well made pastry. Sweet, soft and buttery.

Mini mushroom quiche. It's not the typical served hot quiche you would normally have. This one tastes like salty egg tart with very little mushroom which we could hardly find. Certainly not worth the money.

Roast beef with ciabatta with onions, mushrooms, mayonnaise, lettuce and relish. An ordinary sandwich. The ciabatta bread is slightly tough to chew. We wanted to order the roast beef and caramelised onions sandwich (which we fell in love with when we saw it on a blog) but we made a wrong order and ended up having this.

Banana butterscotch. This is my favourite and is one of the popular pastries which was sold out on that day. Looks like a bee hive, isn't it? It is beautifully coated with caramel and stuffed with delicious banana filling underneath the layers of crispy bread. I love banana so every bite is pure ecstasy.

Me with the birthday girl.

Hui Ming and her birthday present!

Love this picture of Hui Ming. <3

And that's me!

Overall, I think this bread shop is a little bit over-rated. However, you are lucky if you live nearby because the pastries are freshly baked and delicious. There are many foreigners and office workers who look like they are regular which proves that the quality of the pastries here is unquestionable. Does it live up to its reputation of being the top 5 bakeries in KL? Well, I think so.
