Homecook Hakka Food @ Kepong

In times where young people frequent mostly famous restaurant chains and fast food chains, I wondered how many left are passionate about finding traditional good food. Usually passed down from generations and located at unexpected places, these hidden gems are only known by word of mouth from the regular customers who have visited the restaurants for years. I'm lucky to have a dad who is a food lover and a food venturer as I follow him around enjoying good food since young. He is one of the regular customers of this restaurant that I'm going to blog about.

Hubby trying homecook Hakka food for the first time.

Here are some must try dishes recommended by us. One thing to be noted is that the owner of this restaurant is the cook and the only one whom you can order food from. Therefore the average waiting time is about half an hour for the dishes to be served.

This dish is just simply awesome because it tastes almost like my grandmother's cooking.

and who doesn't like teaochew steamed fish?

 Crispy fried brinjal.

which I have to say is my all time favourite.

 Mummy's favourite.

Thumbs up for this dish as the pork is well cooked that the portion of the fat is just nice so your blood cholesterol wouldn't shoot sky high.

Daddy's favourite.

We ended the meal with their famous papaya and it is a must eat dessert for every customer there.

This secretive restaurant is located right in front of The Challengers' Sports Complex near Metroprima Kepong with red extended roof top and no sign.

Latest update on 17/5/2014: The famous homecook Hakka food (阿梅小炒) has moved its location to another end. It's still at the Challengers' Sports Complex so you don't have to worry about having difficulties in finding the new location.

Business hours: 11.30am to 3.00pm only. Closed on Sunday.

Ole-Ole Balinese Cuisine at Waterlily Bistro

Here's another food post to satisfy your food cravings! This time we headed for authentic Balinese cuisine which we thought might be worth trying out.

Waterlily Bistro at Mutiara Tropicana. I did some research on this restaurant and it actually shares the same owner as Bumbu Bali and Ole-Ole Bali.

Doesn't matter if I look fat in this picture as long as I get to enjoy good food.

A must-try Hot Barli boiled with Pandan leaves which explains the unusual fragrance

At first glance, it seems to be a typical Malay rice served with vegetables and chicken. However, I  must say the cooking style is very different compared to the local Malay cuisine. The chicken is extremely tender and is served with some sambal topping.

Thumbs up for the grilled prawns and fish served in this seafood nasi campur.

Sate lilit which is made of various seafood.

Couldn't remember how much we spent on this meal but it is a tad too pricey for people with average budget. It is worth trying out though for first timers.

The Secrets to Happiness

Hey guys, today I'm going to share a video by Bubzbeauty which I thought could be inspiring some of the people out there who might be struggling with their constant negative thoughts.

Bubzbeauty is a youtuber who makes make up and hair tutorial videos. However, unlike other youtubers, Bubzbeauty shares inspiring thoughts with her viewers and this makes her stand out from the rest.

I'm sure everyone has negative thoughts in their mind every single day. Be it 'why am I stuck in this traffic jam' or 'why am I unable to get what I want', everyone is constantly complaining about what they lack, what they desirous of and unable to have. Complaining, complaining and complaining seems to be everyone's daily chores. You probably complain to your friends how disgusted you are with your own flabby tummy. You probably complain about the food your mum cooks. You probably complain about your boring office job. You probably complain about your teacher in school who gives you tremendous amount of homework everyday. Instead of appreciating all the good things around us, we are more likely to complain about the tiny bits of life which we are not satisfied of. Thoughts determine your action and destiny. It's crucial to start feeding yourself with positive thoughts which motivates yourself to strive for the better rather than negative thoughts which can be destructive.

If you are a person who wants to be truly happy, let this video inspire you.

Well, for me, I took a long way to learn the true meaning of gratitude. I'm different from my past as I'm now  constantly thinking about all the good things. It's like counting the blessings you have each day and even the tiniest bit of the happy things that I have encountered on that day (eg Ashie waiting for me to come home, the boyfriend, the family etc) can make me smile when I'm walking along the street, waiting for a taxi or bus.

This is what gratitude should be. Appreciate the current and the present.

Hwangsil Garden at Damansara Perdana

As a big fan of Korean food, I used to frequent Daorae Korean BBQ restaurant at Metroprima Kepong with my friends and family. However, since the last visit there on the occasion of my best friend's 21st birthday, I regret to note that their food service has not been as good as before. Unpleasant experiences such as waiter strictly reminding us that everyone has to order at least one main dish in order to dine in and the unwillingness of the waiter to refill more side dishes on our first request are negatively affecting customer satisfaction. Sigh, I miss my favourite restaurant with friendly waiters and the smiling Korean boss who used to offered me free Kimchi and pancake.

Nevertheless, daddy introduced us another decent Korean BBQ restaurant at Damansara Perdana to satisfy our Korean food cravings.

Tadaa! Hwangsil Garden at Damasara Perdana! We were greeted by a friendly young Korean boss once we entered.

Hubby and me.

Ordered set course and the entrance of our dishes is just epic with the food trolley and the countless side dishes.

12 side dishes in total!

 Pork BBQ.

Kimchi Hot Pot.

 Soybean paste soup.

 Bulgogi (Beef )

 Seafood Pancake

Dakgalbi (Korean Spicy Fried Chicken)

Not to mention they also offered us free drinks and fruit after meal (Coffee or Rice juice).

Food and service is just great and I would love to come back for more authentic Korean dishes. I recommend ordering set courses if there are more than 3 persons dining in as the price would be much cheaper. The restaurant is located on the second floor of the commercial building at Damansara Perdana (near The Curve and Tesco).

Tuesday with Hubby

Whoa it has been more than two weeks since I last updated our bloggie. However fear not for I will have plenty of time to blog soon as I had switched my current job from full time to part time. One of the reasons is that I will be starting my new semester end of this month and I'm currently engaging in some exciting events *winks*.

P/S: I had this strong obsession with black hair recently as I started to freak out when the black was fading and some reddish brown strands of hair of my previous hair colour took over. Solved the problem by dyeing my hair with the same black hair dye for the second time and finally no more reddish brown-ish.
After and Before. Dyeing my hair back to black had made my hair quality looks so much better.

Finally managed to spend some time with hubby and this time we were dating at Midvalley Shopping Mall.

I'm not a huge fan of Pasta Zanmai as I prefer authentic Japanese cuisine rather than the Western+Japanese fusion. However, I decided to give it a try since hubby is complementing their spaghetti ever since he first tried it.

Milky Green Tea which is really nice with cream and red bean to go with the ice blended green tea.

My Salmon Spaghetti which I shall give it a 5 over 10. The cream sauce is watery and not thick enough to my liking. However, the plus point is the mentaiko roe which is really tasty and the dish would have tasted much worse without it.

Hubby's Grilled Chicken Spaghetti. Same watery cream sauce which he was quite disappointed with. Hubby insisted that he had tasted a much better one in his previous visit though.

Took photos with various types of Mickey before proceed to watching Men In Black 3 at the cinema.

Went to this Garden Cafe for tea break after having fast food (Carl's Junior & Popeyes) as dinner. Took a generous amount of photos as I really love the natural light that shone in through the glass panes.

Hot Mocha, Melon Blast and Fries.

Also, hubby bought a weighing scale machine for me (Yay no more guessing my own weight). When I got back, every family member got their body weight weighed including Ashie the fatty kitty which has a dramatic increased body weight of 3kg (2kg previously). A reminder to myself to carefully monitor my body weight from now on. =D
